The West Ham United midfielder admits he has missed a lot of matches in the London Stadium but remains excited to bring his “career back on course”.

He was a routine in England’s setup for some time despite his physical fitness struggles but slowly drifted into anonymity and found himself on the fringes of this activity under Arsene Wenger.

“I clearly had begun [my career] well at Arsenal, I had been enjoying it, I was enjoying it, nearly taking it for granted. I then picked up an accident and that I kind of began to understand my own body, began to realize this occurs in soccer.
“I enjoyed my time at Arsenal, and I moved to Bournemouth, had a fantastic season but picked up another accident.
“I came back, had been told I could quit but managed to remain and fight my way back in the group and had a fantastic year.
