Arsenal started with a 4-4-1-1 formation with Martin Odegaard in the number 10 role.

Arsenal made three changes to their attack and introduced fresh legs into the game.

West Ham started in a 4-2-3-1 formation with a midfield duo of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

West Ham made two changes in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Arsenal had an xG of 3.08 with the 19 attempts they made on goal. West Ham failed to get their goal attempts and had a low xG because of this. Both teams had fair amounts of possession throughout the game.

Martinelli had the highest xG of any other player on the pitch and attempted four shots on goal. Xhaka attempted the most shots on goal and also made 11 passes into the final third. The midfielder was able to recover several loose balls in the opposition’s half as he made six recoveries.

Arsenal attempted 19 shots on goal and were able to keep seven on target. Most of their shots were from outside the box, and they attempted three shots from near the penalty spot.

West Ham only had seven shots on goal and had one of these seven attempts on target. They had three shots from inside the penalty area but only one was on target.

Martinelli attempted four shots on goal and had one on target, but he converted the one chance he had on target. The xG timeline indicates that Arsenal were more effective in the second half as they had a rising xG.

Tomiyasu attempted the most passes for Arsenal and made most passes towards Bukayo Saka.

Arthur Masuaku attempted most passes for the Hammers, while Declan Rice received most passes from his teammates.

Arsenal attempted most passes from the right flank in the middle third and attempted two smart passes into the final third. They attempted more crosses from the right flank, with Bukayo Saka attempting most crosses for the Gunners.

West Ham attempted most passes on the right flank in the final third of the pitch. They built most of their attacks from the right flank. Michail Antonio attempted five passes into the opposition’s 18-yard box.

Arsenal had a higher xT from the right flank and Granit Xhaka was their most efficient passer as he completed 57 passes with a pass accuracy of 92.98%.

Bukayo Saka did generate a higher xT from the passes he attempted but was unable to make the right pass when he got into threatening zones. Xhaka had the highest xT from his passes.

West Ham United also had most of their xT creation zones from the right flank, with Michail Antonio generating the highest xT from his passes.

Most of the West Ham players generated a negative xT value as they failed to make the right move when they got into the final third.

Arsenal won only 14 of the 33 defensive duels that they attempted in the defensive third.

Arsenal won most of their aerial duels in the middle third. Granit Xhaka attempted a total of eight aerial duels and won three of these duels. Xhaka also won the most loose ball duels for his team as he won four out of the six duels he competed for.

Veteran Craig Dawson won most defensive duels for West Ham, but the Hammers failed to win most of their duels in the defensive third.

Tomas Soucek made full advantage of his height as he won a total of five aerial duels. West Ham won only 31.1% of the 45 loose ball duels they competed for. Antonio only won one 50-50 challenge of the nine he attempted.

Despite a strong start to the season, West Ham have won just one of their last six games in the Premier League and are now just three points clear of Tottenham in seventh. Arsenal, on the other hand, have recovered from their back-to-back losses and have moved into the top four of the Premier League.
