West Ham started in a 3-4-2-1 formation with Michail Antonio playing upfront.

West Ham made three changes in the second half of the game as they were searching for a winner. Chelsea started in a 3-4-2-1 formation with a back three of Thiago Silva, Rudiger and Christensen.

Chelsea introduced Romelu Lukaku in the second half, but the Belgian did not have much of an impact on the game.

West Ham had a higher xG than Chelsea despite Chelsea having more shots on goal. Both teams had a similar PPDA and also shared possession for most parts of the game.

Manuel Lanzini had the highest xG of any other player on the pitch and opened the scoring for West Ham. Jarrod Bowen attempted the most number of shots and also attempted three dribbles.

West Ham had a total of 12 shots on goal, with of them on target. They had a shot on target percentage of 50% and had an xG of 0.15 per shot.

Chelsea attempted 17 shots on goal and managed to keep seven of them on target. They had a comparatively lower shot on target percentage than West Ham.

Both teams created fair amounts of chances in the game and also had a similar xG throughout the match. Declan Rice attempted the most number of passes for the Hammers and failed to complete only ten passes.

Reece James attempted the most number of passes for Chelsea and completed most passes to Jorginho.

West Ham attempted most of their passes on the left flank in the central part of the pitch. They also had more crosses from the same side.

Chelsea used the right flank to move further up the pitch and attempted many crosses into the penalty area. Mason Mount attempted eight crosses into the box.

West Ham were most threatening when they attacked from the left flank. Michail Antonio had the highest xT of 0.408 from his passes.

Antonio had a high overall xT as he generated high xT values from his passes and the dribbles he attempted.

Chelsea had a higher number of xT creation zones in the final third and created more chances than West Ham. Reece James had the highest xT from the crosses he put into the penalty area.

Most of the Chelsea players had a decent xT from their passes, but at times they failed to make the right pass when they got into threatening positions.

The West Ham players failed to win most of their defensive duels in their half. Coufal failed to win a single defensive duel from the four duels he competed for.

Kurt Zouma was able to deal with the aerial balls put into the penalty area as he won all four of his aerial duels.

West Ham attempted more loose ball duels in the middle third of the pitch and won most of these duels.

The Chelsea players did manage to win the defensive duels they attempted but failed to recover possession of the ball. Christensen won three out of his 12 defensive duels. Thiago Silva won the most number of aerial duels for Chelsea. He won five out of seven attempted duels.

Reece James did not lose a single loose ball duel. He won four loose ball duels and was able to recover possession of the ball for his team.

The win ended West Ham’s run of three league games without a win since their magnificent 3-2 victory over Liverpool before the international break. The Hammers continue to produce results in big matches and moved to the fourth position on the table. Chelsea slipped down to the third position, as Manchester City and Liverpool won their respective games.
