Leeds United started in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Dan James as their number nine.
Leeds United had to make two early changes in the game as both Firpo and Forshaw faced injuries in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Leeds United had a higher xG than West Ham as they had more attempts on goal. Both teams had phases in which they dominated possession of the ball. Leeds had a better PPDA than West Ham as they tried to recover the ball from the opposition more frequently.
Jack Harrison scored a hat-trick and also had the highest xG than any other player on the pitch. Jarrod Bowen attempted five shots on goal and had an xG of 0.59.
West Ham had 15 shots on goal with five of them on target. They had a shot on target percentage of 26.67% and also generated an xG of 0.13 per shot.
Leeds United attempted 19 shots on goal and managed to keep six shots on target. All three of their goals were scored from positions inside the penalty area. They had a better shot on target percentage of 31.58%.
Jarrod Bowen attempted five shots on goal but only had one on target. Although he did score with his only shot on target, he could have been more clinical in front of the goal. The xT timeline suggests that West Ham created a number of chances towards the end of the game as they searched for an equalizer.
Aaron Cresswell attempted the most passes for the Hammers and completed most passes to Antonio.
Luke Ayling attempted most passes for Leeds and also received the ball 43 times from his teammates.
West Ham attempted most of their passes from the left flank, as seen in the pass zones pitch map. West Ham attempted a number of crosses into the penalty area but were unable to get the equalizer.
Leeds made most of their passes towards the left flank and also constructed their attacks from the same side. Jack Harrison attempted five crosses into the penalty area.
West Ham had higher xT creation zones on the left flank from the crosses that Cresswell put into the penalty area.
Pablo Fornals generated the highest xT from the passes he attempted, while Declan Rice generated the highest xT from his dribbles.
Leeds United had xT creation zones on both flanks as seen in the above visual. Klich generated an xT of 0.268 from the passes he attempted.
Raphinha was able to get into threatening positions from the dribbles he attempted and managed to generate a high xT from his passes. He also made the pass for Leeds United’s third goal.
West Ham attempted more defensive duels on the left flank and were able to win 50% of those duels. Cresswell won four of the six defensive duels he attempted.
Vladimir Coufal won the most number of aerial duels for the Hammers as he won six out of the eight duels he competed for. 
Leeds attempted a total of 64 duels in the defensive third and managed to win 33 duels. Pascal Struijk won five out of his 17 duels.
Leeds won eight of the 12 aerial duels in the defensive third. Struijk and Koch each won three aerial duels.
Struijk put up an impressive performance for Leeds as he won the most number of loose ball duels and was able to recover possession of the ball for his team.
